Apply for provincial funding for parents

Earlier this week, the Province announced details on Support for Learners funding for parents to help offset costs during the 2020-2021 school year. The deadline to apply is January 15, 2021.

Who can apply?

You are eligible to apply if you are a resident of Ontario and a parent or guardian to a child up to age 12, or up to age 21 if they have special needs. If you already received funding earlier in the year under programs that are now closed, like the Support for Parents or Support for Families, you can still apply!

How much will parents receive?

Eligible parents or guardians will receive a one-time payment of:

  • $200 for each child up to age 12
  • $250 for each child or youth up to age 21 with special needs

For more information or to apply for the Support for Learners funding, visit the Government of Ontario website.

Using these funds to purchase a Chromebook

Some parents will be using these funds to purchase a Chromebook for their child. This is a great idea, but not mandatory. If you are going to buy a Chromebook, we recommend getting one with 4GB of memory. If it has a touchscreen, that is helpful but not necessary. To find a great deal on a Chromebook, you can use a website or app like reebee or flipp to search the best offers.
