The Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) is saddened by the passing of Trustee Thérèse Maloney Cousineau on Friday, January 11, 2019 after 35 years as an OCSB Trustee. Trustee Maloney Cousineau represented the Rideau-Vanier, Rideau-Rockcliffe, and Somerset areas (Zone 10). A strong advocate of Catholic education, faith initiatives were very much a part of her vision as an OCSB Trustee. She was also an early promoter of girls in sports and science.

“Thérèse worked diligently to serve the needs of English language learners (ELL) and French as a Second Language (FSL) students. She held a deep understanding of the value these programs had for students, their families, and the greater community. She will be remembered fondly for her sharing of ideas with us at the Boardroom table.”

Mark D. Mullan

Chairperson of the Board

Trustee Maloney Cousineau was elected as Trustee to the Ottawa Roman Catholic Separate School Board in 1984, before the amalgamation with the Ottawa-Carleton Catholic School Board. During more than three decades devoted to her constituents, she has served as Board Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson, has chaired several central committees, and was a longtime member of the Catholic Women’s League at her parish.

We hold Trustee Maloney Cousineau’s family, and all who are close to her, including her Ottawa Catholic School Board family, in our thoughts and prayers.

“Thérèse’s long service to Catholic education will certainly be remembered and honoured as we celebrate her life.”
