Dual-Track Centres - French Immersion in Grades 4 to 6

All of our elementary schools offer the Extended French (25%) program. But, if you are looking to enroll your Grade 4 to 6 student in a French Immersion (50%) program. then you will need to register them in one of the following 46 schools, or Dual Track Centres. These 46 schools are called Dual-Track Centres because they offer both Extended French (25%) and French Immersion (50%) programs. Make sure to check out the list of schools to the right of this page, too! These nine (9) schools now also offer the French Immersion (50%) program for Grade 4 students!

If you don't see your home school in the list above, don't worry!

We will provide transportation services (from your home or caregiver) to the designated Dual-Track Centre in your area. To figure out which school your child should attend, take a look at the next list of schools called Feeder Schools for Dual Track Centres. Please remember that all students must register at their home school first before going on to their designated Dual Track Centre.

New 2012 Dual Track Centres

In September 2012, we will introduce the French Immersion (50%) program into another nine (9) schools. The FSL program will be phased in, beginning with Grade 4 students, in Sepetmber 2012. French Immersion for Grade 5 and 6 classes for these nine (9) schools will be phased in over the next two years.

Entry Point for Immersion

The Ministry of Education requires students to have completed 3,800 hours of French instruction by the end of Grade 8 in order to enter the French Immersion program in Grade 9. In order to meet this requirement, Grade 4 is designated as the entry point for Immersion.

Feeder Schools for Dual Track Centres

If you choose the Extended French program (25%) for your Grade 4 to 6 child, they will remain at their designated home school. But, once your child reaches Grade 4, and if you choose the French Immersion program (50%), then your child will be directed to the Dual-Track Centre designated for your home school. That is, if your home school does not offer French Immersion (50%) in Grades 4 to 6, then we have designated a school close-by for your child to attend once they reach Grade 4 (through to grade 6), and we will provide transporation services to that school.

For example:

A student whose home school is Assumption School would attend this school from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 3, and would continue at this school from Grade 4 to 6 while taking the Extended French (25%) program. But, once your child reaches Grade 4, and if you choose the French Immersion (50%) program, then they would be directed to St. Brigid School. This would be their designated Dual-Track Centre, according to the table below.
