Job Descriptions - Administrative and Support Staff

Office Administrator / Administrative Assistant

Description: The Office Administrator / Administrative Assistant serves as receptionist; maintains attendance and office records/statistics; processes interoffice and Canada Post mail; word process correspondence (MSWord), reports, newsletters; assists in other administrative areas; and performs other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have: a secondary school diploma; one year of Community College in a related field; one year of related experience; proficiency in MS Word; accurate keyboarding (60 w.p.m.); excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; ability to exercise tact, judgement and discretion.


Administrative Clerk

Description: The Administrative Clerk may be required to serve as receptionist; process mail; file, verify data; perform data entry; process invoices, respond to inquiries; and perform other related duties, as assigned. 

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have: a secondary school diploma; one year of Community College in a related field; one year of related experience; proficiency in MS Word; accurate keyboarding (60 w.p.m.); excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; ability to exercise tact, judgement and discretion. 


Library Technician 

Description: The Library Technician performs subject and descriptive cataloguing; provides circulation and general library services to students and staff; promotes authors, books and special events; performs administrative functions associated with the library and/or school; coordinates volunteers' activities; and performs other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have: a Library Technician diploma; related library experience; good clerical skills; excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; computer experience. 


Developmental Assistant / Special Assignment Assistant

Description: The Developmental Assistant / Special Assignment Assistant acts as a member of a team, and designs and implements programs which will enhance the development of gross and fine motor skills, communications, behaviour and socialization skills for severely developmentally handicapped students; assesses and documents students' progress and participates in program and activity planning; and performs other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have one of the following College diplomas: Developmental Service Worker, Child and Youth Worker, Nursing or have a diploma in a related discipline; previous experience dealing with dependently handicapped children; good written and oral communication skills; ability to work independently; First Aid and CPR. 


Educational Assistant

Description: The Educational Assistant is hired as a support staff to a classroom where there is a child with specific needs to be met (developmentally delayed, physically handicapped, deaf, blind, or experiencing behaviour/social/medical problems), or a special education classroom (social adjustment, communication, learning disability). Consequently, each assignment will be different. However, in a global and generic sense, the Teacher Assistant provides support in the students' academic development; responds to the students' physical, emotional and hygienic needs; acts as a team member of the school in any area which may directly assist the assigned student(s), or may contribute to the educational program as a whole; and performs other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have one of the following College diplomas: Developmental Service Worker, Child & Youth Worker or have a diploma in a related discipline; one year of practical experience working with children with special needs; excellent interpersonal and communication skills. First Aid, CPR, Braille and/or Signing are considered an asset. 


Interpreter

Description: The Interpreter is responsible for providing interpreting and other support services to deaf and/or hard of hearing students. The Interpreter facilitates communication among deaf and/or hard of hearing students and their hearing peers, the classroom teacher and other personnel in the school system; offers tutoring and/or note taking services to deaf and/or hard of hearing students when necessary; participates in team meetings and assists the classroom teacher in fostering positive attitudes toward deafness; and performs other duties, as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a Secondary school diploma; a three-year Community college diploma in sign language interpreting; one and a half years of related experience; excellent communication skills; and the ability to establish a rapport and work with individuals on a one-to-one basis. Membership in the Association of Visual Language Interpreters of Canada (A.V.L.I.C.) would be an asset. Individuals who possess an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered. 


Early Childhood Educator (ECE)

Description: The Early Childhood Educator (ECE) - Under the general direction of the Principal, the Early Childhood Educator partners with the classroom teacher(s) to plan and implement a full day early learning program. The Early Childhood Educator collaborates in the design of high quality and effective play-based programs and environments. As part of the Early Learning program team, s/he supports enhanced physical, cognitive, emotional and social development within the context of a Catholic learning environment.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a Secondary School Diploma; an Early Childhood Education diploma or degree; registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators; minimum of two years experience; recent experience with kindergarten age children preferred; and current First Aid and CPR certification. Catholicity, bilingualism and experience working in a school setting would be assets. Housekeeper

Description: The Housekeeper organizes and prepares daily snacks and meals for dependently handicapped students; maintains cleanliness of preparation and eating areas and does laundry; and performs other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have: Grade 10 education; a minimum of two (2) years housekeeping, cooking experience; good knowledge of nutrition values; previous experience dealing with handicapped children. First Aid and CPR are considered an asset. 


Bus Attendant

Description: The Bus Attendant is responsible for the bus loading and unloading of dependently handicapped children and ensuring their comfort and safety during transportation; maintains appropriate medical log; and performs other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have: Grade 10 education; previous experience dealing with severely developmentally disabled children; good interpersonal and communication skills; up-to-date First Aid and CPR training. 


Caretaker

Description: The Caretaker performs cleaning and general maintenance of school interior/exterior, in accordance with established standards; performs daily routine security and safety checks; and performs other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have: some secondary school education where the ability to read and write has been developed; one year of related work experience; basic knowledge of mechanical systems; knowledge of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and its regulations; ability to work independently, performing physically strenuous work.
