Ottawa Catholic Schools - Early Learning

Licensed Kindergarten/School Age Programs

The Kindergarten and School Age programs are operated by the Ottawa Catholic Child Care Corporation which has a seven member Board of Directors made up of parents, community members and Ottawa Catholic School Board representatives. The Child Care Corporation is a non profit organization that is facilitated by the Ottawa Catholic School Board's Early Learning Services Department. Our School Age Programs are licensed to accommodate between 30 to 75 children (depending on the location) on a 12-month basis. Children between the ages of 4 and 12 years of age (as of December 31) are eligible for the program. Please note that not all schools offer care for 4 & 5 year olds, and/or 10-12 year olds. Inquiries should be made directly with each location.

Hours of Operation

The programs operate from 7:00 am to 5:45 pm, daily. Morning kindergarten students may attend from 7:00 am until the start of the morning school session. They may return to the child care program at lunch and remain the rest of the day in the centre. Afternoon kindergarten students may attend the child care program from 7:00 am to the start of the afternoon session and then return after school until 5:45 pm. Full day kindergarten students may attend only before and after regular school hours. Both Kindergarten (where service is offered) and School Age children may attend full days during March Break, Christmas holidays, school PA days, and during the summer holidays. The program is closed for statutory holidays, with the exception of Remembrance Day. A lieu day is taken the week between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day as compensation. The date for the lieu day is determined prior to November 30th of each school year. Children may not remain in the program for days other than those indicated above.

Withdrawal / Discharge Policy

Any child who turns ten (or 12 in some locations) between January 1st and June 30th will be discharged from the school age program on the last day of that school year. Parents may ask permission for the child to remain in the program over the summer. Requests will only be considered if made in writing. Availability of space, program needs and individual needs will be considered in determining if an extension will be granted. Children whose 10th birthday (or 12th birthday in some locations) falls between July 1st and December 31st will be discharged as of the end of the summer program prior to the school year in which they will be 10 (or 12 in some locations). Two weeks written notice from the parents is required at the time any child is withdrawn from the program. If notice is not received, full program fees will be charged. Parents may choose to temporarily withdraw their child from the program at any time. A request may be made to have their name placed on the waiting list for readmission. Regretfully, no guarantee can be given that a space will be available when requested. It is recognized that the child care program may not meet the needs of all children. If an individual child's behaviour becomes detrimental to his/her child care experience, or disruptive for the other children, the supervisor may take any or all of the following actions:

a. Meet with the parent(s) to discuss concerns
b. Notify the Child Care Corporation's Early Learning Services Manager and / or Board of Directors
c. Develop a plan which might include use of outside services and / or volunteer assistance
d. Maintain ongoing contact with parent(s), and regular monitoring of the situation
e. Provide two weeks notice of discharge, or immediate discharge (upon approval from the Board)

Registration and Fees

Register through the Centralized Waiting List, as outlined above. For general information about these programs, please call Early Learning Services at 613-224-4455, ext. 2382, or contact one of the School Age Program locations directly.

Fees must be paid by pre-authorized debit and will be withdrawn once a month on the 15th of each month of service (or next business day). The fees for the Kindergarten program (where applicable) are a maximum of $743.36 per month. The fees for the School Age program are a maximum of $484.15 per month. The actual fee charged will equal the anticipated number of days of care in that month. Eligible families (as determined by the City of Ottawa) may request a subsidized space.

If for any reason a parent chooses not to follow through on enrolment, written notice of refusal of the space is required a minimum of two weeks prior to the agreed upon start date. If written notice is not received, then a one time charge of ten days service will be applied. To maintain a space the fees must be paid whether the space is occupied or not i.e. illness or vacation.

Centralized Waiting List

Parents seeking care at any of our child care programs (including the one outlined on this page) are required to register with Child Care Information in order to be placed on the new Centralized Waiting List. Parents may choose to place their names on other waiting lists (at individual centres) if they wish.
