About Us - Our Vision, Mission and Board Priorities

The Ottawa Catholic School Board’s balanced approach to preparing students for leadership, fulfillment and lifelong learning in a rapidly changing world is founded on four pillars.

1. The development of the whole child.

We support the whole person’s spiritual, mental, physical and emotional well-being in a safe, diverse and respectful community.

2. Academic excellence and achievement.
We deliver academic excellence in vibrant English and French programs.

3. The reflection of Catholic values and principles.
We respect the universal values of all faiths and proclaim Catholic principles of faith and service to others in all our teaching.

4. Innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
We use innovate methods and technologies to support all learning styles and to help our students develop a love of learning in order to thrive in a changing world.

Our Board Priorities

The Board Priorities plan continues to focus on three core elements, which have remained consistent over several years.

Success for Students >Success for Staff >Stewardship of Resources

The Education Act requires boards to establish and monitor the implementation of a Multi-Year Strategic Plan (MYSP). The purpose of the MYSP is to provide vision for the Board by establishing a small number of strategic directions, with an emphasis on student achievement. The Ottawa Catholic School Board's Multi-Year Strategic Plan is built on our Board Priorities, along with our Gospel Values, and our Learning in the 21st Century vision, to reflect a Catholic framework enhanced by digital learning opportunities.

Our Safe and Inclusive Schools

A comprehensive Safe and Inclusive Schools Policy is in place because we believe that students, parents, staff and members of the community have the right to expect schools to be safe and free of violence. Our goal is to enable students to reach their full potential spiritually, intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally. The outstanding extracurricular activities offered at our elementary and secondary schools help to build confidence and self-esteem in students and create school spirit.  An inclusive education system ensures that all students, parents/guardians, and other members of the school community are welcomed and respected.

Our Programs

We offer students at our community schools a comprehensive junior kindergarten to grade 12 program, which includes French language programs, English as a second language programs, special education services, and programs in physical education and the arts. We also offer a state-of-the-art technology program, which includes computer labs in every school, computers in every classroom and an excellent computer-to-student ratio. Our Board graduates more than 100 students each year at our adult high school, and our Continuing and Community Education Department offers more than 300 courses to a variety of learners throughout the city of Ottawa, including those of general interest, English as a second language, and international languages.
